Originally a French word, the Bichon Frise as an official dog breed only in 1971. Their white puffy coat may need trimming and scissoring occasionally and should be brushed every other day. Bichon Frise, according to some dog enthusiasts, have happy disposition in life, in other words, happy-go-lucky animals. Good grooming practices are needed for all Bachon Frise dogs, not just to make them look good but to avoid skin problems and allergies as well. Some of the major health problems that could possibly affect this breed are allergies, Cushing's disease and patellar luxation. It is a small breed of dog and a member of the non-sporting group. Strangers can come up to them and pet them without fear of aggression because these dogs are extremely friendly even to those outside the family. Their eyes are usually very dark, and these cute lap dogs are considered bouncy, playful and extremely perky in character.
